How do I get to my exam after I buy it?

Go to app.paralegalexam.ca and sign in with the email you gave at checkout. Your purchase is already on the dashboard, normally within a minute of paying. You sign in with Google or with a one-time link sent to your inbox, so there is no password to set up or forget.

I signed in and my dashboard is empty. What happened?

Nearly every time, the sign-in email is different from the checkout email, a school address for one and a personal address for the other. Sign out, sign back in with the address on your receipt, and it will be there. If it is not, email us with your order number and we will attach the purchase to the right account.

How close are your mock exams to the real P1?

In shape, the same: 160 multiple-choice questions in sections by area of law, stand-alone and case-based questions, and a 4.5-hour clock kept on our server so it cannot be paused by closing a tab. In content, every question is our own. The quiz packs are different on purpose. They have no timer, because they are for learning a subject and not for rehearsing the day.

What does the report tell me?

You get your score the moment you submit, and then the report. It starts with a ranked list of what to study first, ordered by the marks at stake. After that it breaks your answers down by competency category and by area of law, shows, on a timed mock, where your accuracy and pace changed across the sitting, lists the questions you were sure of and got wrong, and says plainly where a category is too small to judge.

Why two attempts and not unlimited?

Because the second attempt is only useful if it still measures something. Sit a paper once to find your gaps, study, then sit it again to see which ones closed. By a third sitting you would mostly be remembering the questions. If you want a fresh measure, a different mock has 160 questions you have not seen.

The Law Society has granted me extra time. Can my mock match it?

Yes. Email us after you buy and before you start the exam, tell us what the Law Society approved, and we will set your timer to match. We do not ask for documents and there is no charge.

Can I pause an exam, or move from my laptop to my phone?

Both. A timed mock includes a few short pauses that stop the clock while you step away. Every answer is saved as you choose it, so you can also sign in on another device and carry on from your next unanswered question. Outside the built-in pauses the clock keeps running, including while you switch devices, and we warn you before you leave the page.

What happens if the time runs out?

The exam submits itself and marks what you answered. You lose nothing, and you still receive the full report, including where in the sitting your pace fell behind.

I was unsuccessful and I am writing again. Do I pay full price?

No. Returning candidates can renew the Paralegal Complete Collection for $110 + HST, and repurchase any single mock exam or quiz pack at 15% off. Email us from the address you bought with and we will set it up.

Do you have rates for study groups or college classes?

Yes. For ten or more candidates, email us and we will arrange a group rate. Each person still has an account and a report of their own, because a report only means something when it describes one person.

Can two of us share one account?

No. The report is built from how one person answered, and two people on one login produce a report that describes neither of them. Access belongs to the email that bought it, and accounts that are shared may be restricted.

Are these real P1 questions?

No. Every question is original to LexPD and written to the entry-level competency standard. We never use, reproduce or paraphrase actual examination content. That protects you as much as it protects us.

Is ParalegalExam.ca part of the Law Society of Ontario?

No. ParalegalExam.ca is an independent exam-preparation service. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or approved by the Law Society of Ontario, and our mock exams are practice tools, not a prediction of your result.

Who runs ParalegalExam.ca?

LexPD (Lex Professional Development Group Inc.), an Ontario company that has tutored licensing candidates since 2015. LexPD also runs OntarioBarExam.com, the same platform for the Barrister and Solicitor examinations.

About the Paralegal Licensing Exam (P1)

These answers come from the Law Society of Ontario’s own published paralegal licensing examination pages. Dates and fees can change, so confirm them there before you rely on them.

What is the P1 exam?

P1 is the common name for the Ontario Paralegal Licensing Examination, the single exam the Law Society of Ontario requires before it licenses a paralegal. Our guide to the Paralegal Licensing Exam covers it in full.

How many questions are on the Paralegal Licensing Exam, and how long is it?

160 multiple-choice questions in 4 hours and 30 minutes, written as one paper. Each question has four options and one best answer, and each is worth one mark.

Is the P1 open book?

Yes, in print only. You may bring the Law Society’s study materials printed and marked up, with your own notes and index. No phone, tablet, laptop or other digital access is allowed in the testing area.

Which P1 dates are coming up, and when does registration close?

There are three P1 sittings in each licensing year, in summer, fall and winter. The next ones on the Law Society’s published schedule are Tue 3 Nov 2026 (registration closed 21 Sept 2026), Thu 25 Feb 2027 (registration closes 12 Jan 2027) and Tue 27 Jul 2027 (registration closes 14 Jun 2027). The Law Society can move a date, so its P1 dates and deadlines page is the one to rely on. Our P1 guide also lists the application deadlines. Once you have picked a sitting, our free P1 study planner works out when you need to begin.

What score do you need to pass the P1?

Nobody outside the Law Society knows. It sets one overall standard for the paper, does not publish it, and does not tell you your own score: the result is a pass or a fail. Any percentage you see quoted online is a guess. There is no separate standard for each section.

How many times can you write the P1?

Up to three times within your licensing term. To rewrite, you register again through LSO Connects by the deadline for the sitting you want.

How much does the Paralegal Licensing Exam cost?

The Law Society charges $1,460 for the examination and $100 for the study materials, plus tax. If you defer or rewrite in a later licensing year, you buy that year’s materials again, because they are revised every year.

How long do P1 results take?

About eight weeks after the sitting. Candidates who are unsuccessful also receive a profile from the Law Society that breaks their performance down by competency category.

Can I write the P1 online, or outside Toronto?

It is written in person only. Sittings are held in Toronto, and the fall and winter sittings are also held in Ottawa, where seats are limited and not guaranteed.

What is the best way to prepare for the P1?

Three things, in this order. Read the Law Society’s study materials, because every question is drawn from them. Make them findable, with tabs and an index, because print is all you may bring and there is no time to browse. Then rehearse at full length under the clock, so that exam day is not your first 4.5-hour sitting. Paralegal Mock Exam A is built for that.
