Paralegal Licensing Exam (P1) study planner

The P1 materials run past 700 pages and the exam date does not move. This planner does the arithmetic: each section's page count, how fast you read, the days you can study. Choose your sitting and it tells you when to start.

Your plan

Built on the Paralegal (P1) materials, 738 pages with the appendices.

Which sitting?
How many reads of the materials?
When will you start? (optional)
A normal week for you

Starts today at 90 pages on a study day, above the 50 you set. See the warning below.

You have 17 days and this plan takes 54.

The 738 pages, read twice, come to 1,476 pages of reading, spread over 11 and then 9 days. A second or third read is quicker, because you are recognising the material and no longer meeting it. Add 5 days of practice questions and a light final week.

There is not enough time left for this plan. Even at 90 pages on a full study day, which is about as fast as anyone holds for months, the reading runs 21 days past 3 Nov 2026. The calendar below starts today at that pace. In order of preference: move to a later sitting, change a working day to a full study day, or read the materials one time fewer. Keep the practice days.

StageDays
1st passOne steady read of everything. Keep moving when something is hard. The aim is to learn where things are.11
2nd pass, with practiceA quicker read, with practice questions on each section as you finish it. This stage earns the most marks and is the first to be cut when time runs short.14
Final weekYour weak spots, your notes and index, and proper sleep. Nothing new.6

Keep one day a week for yourself

Please do this. Choose a day, leave it empty of study, and spend it on something you enjoy, not on catching up. Plans rarely fail in the last week. They fail near the halfway mark, when the candidate is worn out. A day to look forward to is what gets you through the six before it.

The planner has already counted that day out of your schedule, and it shows on the calendar every week.

Your study calendar

One section of the materials per study day, showing the pages to read and how many there are. (1st) means the first read and (2nd) the second. A dot beside the date marks a working day, with its lighter target.

Away for a day or a week? Click that day to take it out.

Trips, family events, a long weekend: mark them here and the planner moves the reading to other days, so time away does not turn into being behind. Click the day again to bring it back.

For what the exam covers and how it is run, see our guide to the P1. When the plan says to practise a subject, the quiz packs are made for that day, and the free quiz is a good first one.

Page ranges follow the table of contents of the Law Society’s paralegal study materials, and the reading rates are LexPD’s own figures from preparing candidates. Neither is published or endorsed by the Law Society of Ontario. Page numbers can change between editions, so check them against your own copy, and confirm examination dates with the Law Society.
